This year, thanks to the enthusiasm and generosity of Saheli’s volunteers, we sent 25 gift baskets to mothers who have overcome difficult challenges in their lives, and live alone or in shelters. Volunteers gathered at the Saheli office and made 25 beautiful baskets that included a variety of gift certificates.
During a conversation with Sweta Mepani, Saheli Advisory Committee member about Mother’s Day baskets, she expressed interest in wanting to do more to help mothers who need food and groceries. Sweta circulated the request among two friends and they quickly donated $850. How incredibly generous and thoughtful of them, we are blessed to have such support! Saheli co-executive directors Savitha and Nadia have set these funds aside for exactly what the donors requested – help mothers with food and household needs.
We are really pleased with this successful volunteer-involved Mother’s Day gift basket event! About sixteen volunteers came to the Saheli office in Burlington with donations that included gift cards to shopping and food places, bath products, candy and several personal items like handbags, scarves, costume jewelry and so much more! They worked together and filled the bags with the goodies and wrote beautiful hand written Mother’s Day cards for each basket! Many volunteers felt deeply connected to this cause, because it reminded them of their own mother who may have passed.
All volunteers checked off saying they would like to continue to volunteer for Saheli. Many came and asked if we could do this again for New Year’s Day! If you would like to volunteer for a similar project please write to info@saheliboston.org
