At Saheli, prevention means changing what our communities accept. By questioning harmful norms and the systems that keep survivors silent, we work to break cycles of abuse before they begin.

Prevention Resources

Saheli is committed to raising awareness, providing support services for survivors, educating healthcare and legal systems, collaborating with youth, and addressing underlying cultural factors of domestic violence.

Worried About Someone You Care About?

When someone close to you is being hurt by a partner, it can be hard to know what to say. You don’t need all the answers. Your support can make a real difference.

Be someone they can talk to.

Let them share at their own pace. Stay calm, believe them, and use the words they use to describe what’s happening, even if they don’t call it “abuse.”

Share choices, not instructions.

Telling someone what to do can take away the control they need. Gently share what help is available, such as Saheli’s free and confidential helpline, and trust them to decide what comes next.

Respect their situation.

Leaving may not feel possible because of family expectations, children, finances, or immigration concerns. They understand their own safety better than anyone else.

Keep showing up.

They may make choices you don’t agree with, including staying or returning. Keep checking in. Knowing you’re still there can help them reach out when they’re ready.
