The STAND club at Brandeis University organized a panel discussion on How Far does Greater Boston Reach? A History of Immigrant Communities in the Greater Boston Area as a part of ‘deis IMPACT 2019. The STAND Club is dedicated to increasing awareness of the experiences of refugees and immigrants globally. Saheli’s Executive Director Divya Chaturvedi and Domestic Violence Advocate Nijal Popat were panelists at this intriguing discussion. The discussion centered around the history of immigrant communities, challenges they face, future advocacy and opportunities for student involvement. Other panelists at the event included Anh Vu Sawyer from Southeast Asian Coalition, Liza Ryan from MIRA, Sharline Nabulime and Yolanda De Cruz from South Boston en Acción. The night ended with an interesting chat with the students committed to making a change.
