Legal Advocacy

Saheli offers a range of culturally tailored legal advocacy services in various South Asian languages and Arabic. We assist survivors in navigating the complex legal system.

Court accompaniment

Saheli’s domestic violence advocates accompany survivors to the court and offer culturally and linguistically informed support during the proceedings.

Bi-monthly legal clinics

Saheli works with a family law attorney to offer survivors free one-on-one legal consultations.

Legal assistance funds

Saheli offers legal assistance to help with certain forms and lawyer services for low-income survivors. Fill out an intake form to find out if you are eligible.

Referrals to immigration and family law attorneys

Saheli staff assesses survivors’ financial situation and refers them to lawyers who can offer pro-bono or low-cost legal services.

Advocacy with law enforcement

Saheli staff assists survivors in communication with law enforcement by helping the survivor to report incidents and offering culturally sensitive advocacy on behalf of the survivors.

Assistance with legal proceedings and documentation

Saheli staff will assist survivors in obtaining restraining orders and other protection orders and provide assistance in writing affidavits and other legal documents.

Education and outreach

Saheli staff offers cultural training programs for law enforcement, legal aid organizations, law students, and DCF. Saheli also organizes community awareness programs to provide information on family law and immigration law.
