Saheli’s Economic Empowerment Program gives domestic violence survivors tools and resources to live a safe, self-sustaining, and empowered life.
The EEP model includes financial and computer literacy classes, assistance to obtain certifications, financial aid for professional training, career planning, and resources to find jobs.
EEP provides support in four areas:
Through this program, Saheli provides the following 3 categories of services and resources to South Asian women:
Economic Empowerment Funds:
Saheli provides financial assistance to survivors of domestic violence and women from low-income families to pursue a certificate or program to gain new skills or polish an existing one and increase their chances of living a self-sustaining independent life.
Career Support and Workshops:
Saheli provides a variety of services to enhance job skills and enable women to achieve economic self-sufficiency like career advice and planning, computer basics, resume writing, conducting job searches, filling job applications, making LinkedIn profiles, networking, etc.
Financial Literacy Workshops:
Saheli staff and volunteers provide one-on-one financial counseling to survivors who are in the process of setting up a new economically independent life.
Scholarships for South Asian and Arabic Girls
Saheli is now offering scholarships for one year to two female students to pursue a college degree. Scholarships will range in size from $1,500 to $2,000. The applicant must be a senior in high school with a rising GPA and a commitment to higher education at an accredited college. The student may attend either a 4-year college or a 2-year program. Saheli’s goal is to empower girls who are unable to attend an institution of higher learning due to financial constraints. Funds for this scholarship were raised in the South Asian community of Boston in 2019 to assist underserved immigrant families.
