Great weather, a good cause and wonderful volunteers, three ingredients made for a very successful Walk. 75 men, women, children, elders, and even 2 dogs, participated in Sahelis Annual Walk To Prevent Domestic Violence in Burlington on September 27th.
Thank you to all who joined us, walked with us, donated funds, sponsored the event, organized the beautiful tables and supported Saheli’s work. This year was special, there was garba dancing, vendors selling food, clothes, and jewelry, there were short plays by SETU focused on women and abuse, and best of all, there was a fabulous DJ announcing exciting gifts and raffle prizes.
If you could not attend this Walk but still want to support Saheli, you can still do so by going to saheliboston.org and making a pledge to the Purple Purse Online Donation. We hope you will do it soon, every dollar will be matched by AllState Foundation and will go to a restricted fund that is used to help survivors of abuse, abandoned women and children, and provide food, shelter and support to South Asian women.
Between January 1, 2014 and Sept. 27th, 2014, Saheli has helped 112 women and their families, worked 548 hours with clients and held 334 meetings with them. Our top services were one on one culturally sensitive counseling, personal advocacy for economic and financial security, and legal and immigration assistance. I hope you will be generous in your support.
