By Divya Chandra, Saheli Volunteer
Two Saheli volunteers, Professor Anil Saigal and Jonjy Ananth, MD, were sworn in as Commissioners of the Asian American Commission late last month by State Treasurer Deborah Goldberg in a simple yet beautiful ceremony held at the State House. The ceremony was attended by the new Commissioners of 2017, Office Bearers of the Commission, Officials of the State Treasurer, and other invited guests
The Asian American Commission (AAC) is a Massachusetts Commission, formed in recognition of one of the fastest growing minorities – Asian Americans. It is a permanent body dedicated to advocacy on behalf of Asian Americans throughout Massachusetts. The Commission’s goal, according to its website, is “to recognize and highlight the vital contributions of Asian Americans to the social, cultural, economic, and political life of the Commonwealth; to identify and address the needs and challenges facing residents of Asian ancestry; and to promote the well-being of this dynamic and diverse community.”
Professor Saigal has been associated with Saheli as an Advisory Committee Member and Jonjy as a volunteer Domestic Violence Advocate. Saheli is proud and encouraged to have such dedicated volunteers, working tirelessly to champion the various causes of Asian Americans right here in Massachusetts! Together, we are stronger and will continue to make a difference.
