 BURLINGTON, MA—Saheli Boston, a non-profit community-based organization that is dedicated to empowering South Asian women and their families, held an open house last weekend at its newly-opened office in Burlington, MA, and is getting ready to host its fundraising gala on Sept. 18 at Westin Hotel in Waltham, MA.Various members of the Indian community visited Saheli office to meet the Saheli family. Saheli Board President Gouri Banerjee welcomed guest to the new space on 11 Bedford St in Burlington, spoke about Saheli’s 19-year history, and hopes for the future of Saheli as an organization, including on-boarding new staff in the next few years to get the next generation involved in the cause of ending domestic violence. Anil Saigal, president of the India Association of Greater Boston also attended the event, sharing information about how IAGB helped Saheli start in 1996, and congratulating the organization for providing vital services for the community for nearly two decades. Anu Chitrapu and Manju Sheth, co-chairs of Nirbhaya Fundraiser, spoke about why they feel passionate about Saheli, and for the last several years, have taken the lead in organizing the fundraiser to support the agency. This year, Nirbhaya will support the Economic Empowerment Fund, which provides clients with the tools and resources needed to live a safe, self-sustaining, and empowered life by providing financial support so clients can pursue education, build career skills, and start businesses. The Nirbhaya Fundraising committee has a goal of raising $80,000 to ensure the continuation of valuable program to the community. |
