Saheli and the Boston South Asia Center organized a candlelight vigil in memory of the young medical student who was beaten, gang raped, and murdered by six men in Delhi in late December.

Local community members came together to condemn the incident and violence against women amongst South Asians. The horrific crime has sparked massive nation-wide protests in India and amongst South Asian diaspora communities all over the world. It is hoped that the incident will spark a much-overdue conversation about the dismal state of gender equality in India.
