Burlington, MA (September 22, 2015) –Saheli, Support and Friendship for South Asian Women 2015-top-rated-awards-badge-embed (1)and Families announced today that it has been honored with a prestigious 2015 Top-Rated Award by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews about nonprofit organizations.

“We are excited to be named a Top-Rated 2015 Nonprofit,” says Gouri Banerjee, Ph.D., Chair of the Board, Saheli Support and Friendship for South Asian Women and Families. Saheli is proud of our accomplishments this year, including supporting 261 individual women and their families, holding over ten community education workshops, and presenting at multiple conferences as well as organizing three youth workshops. The Top-Rated Nonprofit award was based on the large number of positive reviews that Saheli received – reviews written by volunteers, donors and clients. People posted their personal experience with the nonprofit. For example, one person wrote, “Saheli is an incredible organization that fills a need no one else does. South Asian immigrant women are at particular risk of domestic violence at the hands of their partners, and they have a really tough time navigating the complex bureaucracy to get restraining orders, accommodation in shelters, and to retain their immigration status. Saheli provides free services in their own languages with compassion and care.”

While the Top–Rated Awards run through the end of October, Saheli was part of the inaugural group to qualify for the year. In addition, we’ll been added to GreatNonprofits #GivingTuesday Guide—an interactive guide to top nonprofits throughout the years. Look for this near the holidays.

“Savvy donors want to see the impact of their donations more than ever,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits, “People with direct experience with Saheli have voted that the organization is making a real difference.”

Being on the Top-Rated list gives donors and volunteers more confidence that this is a credible organization. The reviews by volunteers, clients and other donors show the on-‐the-‐ground results of this nonprofit. This award is a form of recognition by the community. About Saheli: Saheli, a community-based women’s organization in New England, was founded in 1996. Our mission is to empower South Asian women and their families to live safe and healthy lives.
