It was a cold Saturday evening in the town of Burlington when hundreds of people of Indian origin came together to celebrate India Day. The festive atmosphere at the Burlington High School Auditorium was full of energy and colorful traditional attire. People traveled from across the New England to show their allegiance to the majestic country. The day commemorated 67th Republic Day of the country with magnificent display of Indian Culture and talent. Young and old alike exuberated joy and zeal witnessing the rich heritage and traditions of India. The event has been conducted and coordinated by IAGB (Indian Association of Greater Boston) and Saheli, a spin-off of IAGB focusing on South Asian Women Empowerment has been supporting IAGB in all events.

The gala festival saw confluence of hundreds of Indians and Indian Americans to honor and respect their culture and people. Both young and adults danced with much fervor to show their love for the country. Girls garbed in colorful skirts added charm and vigor to the exciting atmosphere topped with the appetizing food from Dosa Factory of Anish Ramadev, who won people hearts with his bonhomie and delectable eats. Saheli appeased chai lovers with some good dose of simmering beverage. People were thrilled to be able to win round trip to India by Emirates Airlines provided by Adam Travels.

Saheli exhibited its continued support to women and their empowerment to lead safe and healthy lives. Saheli is thankful to its wonderful volunteers-Rituparna, Binu and Supriya who were present to promote Saheli’s objectives and upcoming events.

The day concluded with pleasing memories to cherish, a little more love for India and the promise to be back next year.
